Do you know Petra Kvitova? You should. The power Czech took home her biggest career win this past weekend in Madrid pushing her into the WTA’s world top 10. It’s her debut appearance in the elite group. Additional wins in 2011 tourneys include Paris and Brisbane. Surely she’s a tennis talent to watch.
Kvitova wears Nike Gridiron group here. The smash classic tank in white with gym pink is $55 USD. It’s got a wide keyhole opening in the back which would be problematic for bra finding reasons had Nike not built a high-impact bra right into the top. I’m loving this trend which allows a great looking outfit to stay attractive without all sorts of sports bra sticking out.
If you prefer sleeves, and many, many do. There is one, $50, pictured right. No bra for the sleeved top though.
The skort here is in in pink with gridiron and white, $55.The top also comes in the solid pink with gridiron accent and the skort, white and pink.
Very classy, strong look for the court. Hint of old school cheerleader in the skirt but just a hint. We’re all grown up now so that’s good.
Find the looks at Tennis-Warehouse, Nike and tennis retailers world-wide.
Racquet? Kvitova plays with the Wilson Tour BLX.

Maria Sharapova has revealed her newest on-court weapon. Now officially painted, Sharapova premiered the new HEAD YouTek IG INSTINCT tennis racquet first round at the Mutua Madrid Open and came up with a win. The racquet has been a work in progress since early 2011.
“The game became a lot more powerful, a lot more physical,” Sharapova said. “I was really looking for a powerful racquet, and am thankful that HEAD provided me with exactly that.”
The new stick is said to provide “Effortless Power” actually. The YouTek Instinct IG series will be available in August in two versions, the MP and the S model. Both will allow players to create power in their strokes much more easily, due to better maneuverability of the racquet during the swinging motion and less energy loss at ball impact; built in Innegra™ technology reduces vibration on ball impact and allows for more control.
More specs are forthcoming.
HEAD CEO Johan Eliasch noted, “Maria gave a lot of input to help develop this new series of racquets. We are proud that she joined our team and trusts our products.” Proud? Yes of course but much more likely… very, very thrilled ;)
Maria’s apparel here? All Nike Maria Sharapova Group. The Statement Tank in lemon frost/lightbulb $60 and Skort, in gridiron $60. Very pretty two piece set.

Pink continues to fill rec courts and so it is not surprising that Nike pretty regularly offers up a women’s tennis collection comprised of the color.
This group combines the athletic Set Point Tennis Tank, in spark and white, $50 part of the Nike Spark Group. There is a subtle tonal hexagonal floral graphic across the front that I really like.
Built in bra and straight over adjustable single straps (it does not have the double straps pictured here). The gradiated color change is effective in connoting movement. The shirt also comes in a short-sleeved scoop neck style.
The skort is the Nike Spark Set Point Skort, pink compression shorts underneath, drop waist and trimmed crinoline flounce at the bottom, $55. It reminds me of a Betsey Johnson skirt.
Ranked WTA #39 in the world, Zhang (of China) makes pink look both stylish and strong. The tee says it all.
Find it at Nike, Tennis-Warehouse and tennis retailers nationwide.

A ruffled behind is not just for baby girls anymore. But ladies your bum had better be fit or it’s not going to be pretty. Check out these court shorties from Fila. They look like something from Victoria’s Secret, especially in pink.
They come as pictured here in hot pink as well as white and ebony to go with Fila’s Baseline Collection. Sure to be distracting in mixed dubs company. $35.
Find the Baseline Ball short at Fila.

We didn’t see Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa long at the WTA Dubai Duty Free. She faced Jelena Jankovic first round and lost BUT I loved her look, something kinda Katherine Hepburn about the ensemble.
Pictured left, Scheepers wears separates from K-Swiss’ new Spring Tennis Group. The top is a spliced shell tank, a popular style among women who eschew body cling, $30, bright white with shimmery champagne beige (almost gold) accents. The skort is a flattering, updated version of the traditional pleated tennis skirt in the same glowing champagne beige, simple, classy and not hip magnifying at all. The black accent is a thin grosgrain ribbon, $47. All performance, UV protective and breathable.
Really pretty in such an understated way.
Find it at K-Swiss.com, Tennis-Warehouse and tennis retailers worldwide.

David Nalbandian of Argentina wears new Yonex tennis 2011 Melbourne Collection here at the Movistar Open in Chile.
The crew, named for the city at which it first appeared, will be available in four color combos: black/teal (Lleyton Hewitt wore it at AO), white/teal, red/black (on Richard Berankis below at AO) and white/red (as here-my fav).
The shorts come in white or black. I really dig the crisp, dynamic streamer-esq graphic on both front and back. There is something about this look that is so not “outfit” making it one you could recreate without feeling like too much of a wanna-be (toss in a black headband instead of red maybe).
The tennis shoes are the Yonex SHT-307 Navy/Silver Men’s and updated shoe loaded with new comfort and performance technology.
Yonex tennis apparel is loose fitting lightweight and breathable. Nice stuff.
Find it online soon at Tennis-Warehouse or find a retailer at Yonex. Unfortunately Yonex is tough to find at brick and mortar shops in the US. Please leave a comment if you’ve found otherwise. Top image: Jim Rydell Movistar Open. Bottom, Krystle Lee at Tennis-Brain.

Athletic DNA has released a new line of tennis shirts for 2011 including the Eclipse T in blue and black, pictured here on South African Kevin Anderson. This shirt is part of Athletic DNA’s Training Line, designed for the workouts that take you to and through matches.
Also in the group are the Impact and Ignite; all three use graffiti artist styled spilled paint graphics on performance material (quick to dry, UV protection, anti bacterial).
For the guy who wants that edgy look you just can’t get with a tidy polo.
Find it at Athletic DNA. Shirts run $49.95.

You saw this tennis outfit on Francesca Schiavone and Ekaterina Makarova at the Australian Open. The white tee and skirt are from Lotto’s new Spring Summer 2011 range, the performance oriented Missy Line. Both wore Lotto’s new Raptor Ultra II shoes as well.
White is obviously a smart color choice for Australia’s summer sun and it actually stood out amidst all of the brights on court down under. Pretty and clean looking, traditional with a twist. The inset ruching down the front and feminine cap sleeves with hint of puff picks up the skirt’s hem detail. A fun take on basic white.
Lotto’s womens Missy Line will also be available in a peachy looking Irid Cocktail. You will see it at Roland Garros.
Find a retailer at Lotto. Lotto apparel is not currently available in the USA. Too bad because I really like their mens Bat line this season.

Philip Kohlschreiber wore the new-for-Spring 2011 Wilson Collins Crew and Brisben Shirt at the Australian Open. Pictured here, as at AO, he wears it in white, intense lime and bark brown, all laser cut, no sew seams, with a nice soft feel and body mapping for heat management. The Brisben polo in the group is sharp as well. I actually prefer it over the crew.
The unique design and color combination (also in red, black and white) here give this look energy on its own. The brown very effectively tones down the dash of bright.
I’ve heard differing opinions on this color combination but for a guy that just doesn’t feel right in a solid jazzy bright but wants something a little more modern than a straight-forward solid, this is a good and very comfortable option. That said, these shorts would, of course, look great with a solid white shirt.
Look also for the matching Collins hoodie and Flinders pant to pull it all together.
Available soon at tennis retailers worldwide.

Of course Maria Sharapova’s new racquet deal comes with a fresh tennis bag. A tennista like Maria could never carry last year’s bag.
Pictured here at the Australian Open Sharapova walks on court with her one-of-a kind HEAD racquet bag. No this bag is not available at market yet but now through January 31, 2011 you can try and win one over on HEAD’s facebook page. Answer a few Maria centric trivia questions and you too might be able carry this bag on court.
Watch for the Maria Sharapova line of HEAD racquets and bags later in the year.
BTW here’s the scoop on her apparel line.
