Lotto! David Ferrer to play Sergiy Stakovsky in complimentary style.

David Ferrer in Monte Carlo 2011

David Ferrer hit the clay in Madrid wearing Lotto’s handsome new Graphic Crew and Short. Sergiy Stakovsky, Ferrer’s next opponent, did the same. It’ll be an all-Lotto event. Looking forward to seeing what they show up in tonight.

The white with cyan shirt pictured here (taken in Monte Carlo) also come in Fanta orange and white with black accents. It’s available as a polo as well. The crew cut and neckline mimic the style of a soccer (aka football) jersey, something I’ve seen becoming popular on court since 2009.

The top is $43 USD and shorts, $40 (elastic waist and built in brief). The discreet dotted graphic on the shirt is also at the top back of the shorts. Nice touch. The coordinating wristbands are $23

So what’ll it be guys? Maybe they mix up the color scheme a bit but the blue and white does look sooo good against the clay.

Find it at Tennis-Warehouse and tennis retailers worldwide or use the Lotto store locator.

Dunlop signs auspicious American Tim Smyczek.

Tuesday, April 26th, 2011

Tim_Smyczek_BouncingBall Dunlop tennis has signed Tim Smycek, a hot-on-court Milwaukee native, to a racquet deal. His win last week against Donald Young in the 2011 USTA French Open Wild Card Playoffs earned him the coveted ticket to Roland Garros.

Smyczek is hitting with a Dunlop Biomimetic 300 Tour

“Tim is a great signing for Dunlop,” said Kai Nitche, Vice President and General Manager of Dunlop Racket Sports. “He possesses the key characteristics we look for in our Tour Team members; he works extremely hard both on and off-court, he’s dedicated, and he pulls through in clutch situations. It’s been a pleasure to work with him thus far, and we wish him well as he continues his climb up the ATP World Tour rankings.”

The 23 year old trains at the Saddlebrook Resort in Tampa and now makes his second appearance in a Grand Slam main draw; he won the USTA playoff last August to get into the US Open. This year he’s continued his upward momentum by reaching the quarters in San Jose in February and the second round in Indian Wells after qualifying for the main draw.

Smycek currently wears adidas apparel and footwear. Yeah, you’re right, he’s hot off court too ;)

Here’s his website.

ASICS releases new tennis footwear for 2011.

Friday, February 11th, 2011

ASICS GEL Resolution 3 Black and Pink ASICS has released four new tennis shoes for 2011. I have never worn a pair of ASICS so I can’t vouch for them personally but a review of chat on past lines comes up glowing. Comfort and cushioning are recurring words. I know players who swear by them for those reasons.

The new tennis line-up starts with the flagship GEL-Resolution 3 for $115 USD offering synthetic leather with form fitting support and stability. Pictured above is one of the women’s models. It also comes in white with purple accents. An impact guidance system is said to enhance the foot’s natural gait cycle and heel clutch system insures feet stay put. There is a six-month outsole guarantee on this shoe. The men’s version is 13.7 oz and women’s is 11.9 oz. Men’s colors: black with yellow accents and white with red accents.

ASICS GEL Challenger 8 Black and Lime The GEL-Challenger 8 is $20 less than the Resolution 3. Priced at $95, this shoe is made of synthetic leather and mesh and offers GEL cushioned comfort and support, including personal heel fit without the extra bells and whistles and without the six month guarantee. A men’s version is pictured right in black and lime. It’s also available in white with black. In women’s it comes in white with fashionable maui blue or boysenberry accents.

ASICS GEL Game 3 White and Navy The GEL-Game 3, $75, is a  mid-level shoe for players who want to be light on their feet. The men’s is 12.6 oz and women’s 10.4 oz.  Again, fewer of the extras but a solid tennis shoe. Men’s also comes in white with crimson. Women’s: white with purple or white with green.

The GEL-Dedicate 2 , $65 is the least expensive version in the new ASICS line-up (not pictured). It is also the lightest shoe. Women’s: white with blue. Men’s: white with charcoal.

Find more info at ASICS (there is a store locater there) or buy at Tennis-Warehouse (men’s or women’s) or tennis retailers world wide. BTW Tennis-Warehouse offers a site 6 month sole warranty on ALL of these shoes. That’s pretty nice for those of us that chew through shoes.

Philip Kohlschreiber Introduces Spring Wilson 2011 Tennis Fashion for Men.

Friday, January 21st, 2011

Philipp Kohlschreiber Australian Open WilsonPhilip Kohlschreiber wore the new-for-Spring 2011 Wilson Collins Crew and Brisben Shirt at the Australian Open. Pictured here, as at AO, he wears it in white, intense lime and bark brown, all laser cut, no sew seams, with a nice soft feel and body mapping for heat management. The Brisben polo in the group is sharp as well. I actually prefer it over the crew.

The unique design and color combination (also in red, black and white) here give this look energy on its own. The brown very effectively tones down the dash of bright.

I’ve heard differing opinions on this color combination but for a guy that just doesn’t feel right in a solid jazzy bright but wants something a little more modern than a straight-forward solid, this is a good and very comfortable option. That said, these shorts would, of course, look great with a solid white shirt.

Look also for the matching Collins hoodie and Flinders pant to pull it all together.

Available soon at tennis retailers worldwide.

New from Babolat, his and hers rockin’ Roddick reds.

Thursday, January 20th, 2011

You can’t help but notice Andy Roddick’s seriously red tennis shoes. Flash-ehh? There’s a women’s version as well, though a tad more subdued. If you want the full blast ladies, go with a men’s size like many women already do.

Andy Roddick’s shoes are the new Babolat Propulse 3, the third reincarnation of the Propulse, $109. The women’s version is the the Lady 3, $104 (USD). This is a solid but lightweight and breathable performance shoe. The velcro belts, as I call them, are great for securing the shoe for a snug feeling, very custom fit. Michelin man soles offer durability and traction.

Kei Nishikori of Japan Getty Images IMG Worldwide recently announced that Kei Nishikori of Japan (currently #82 in the world) has signed a 5 year apparel agreement with UNIQLO Co. He wore the line for the first time earlier this year at the Aircel Chennai Open in India and is currently wearing it at the Australian Open. The shorts mirror the shirt’s design. It’s a straightforward, clean look.

Nishikori trains at the Bradenton Florida IMG Bollettieri Tennis Academy and is coached by Dante Bottini and Brad Gilbert.

UNIQLO Japan plans a more detailed announcement at the end of the month. The tennis apparel is not yet available in the US but may be later in the year.

Andy Murray Australian Open Tennis Fashion 2011

Wednesday, January 5th, 2011

Andy Murray Australian Open 2011
Say goodbye to the argyle. adidas has unveiled plans for Andy Murray’s tennis style in Australia and it’s a strong step in a better direction in my humble opinion. Above is the SS11 Barricade tennis outfit, The style comes in two color ways, intense green and black, as above, and pure white with intense green detail (likely for day matches).

The apparel incorporates adidas’ ForMotion technology that enhances freedom of movement by moving naturally with the body. Bonded seams and collar mean less skin friction and a more technical look. ClimaCool ensures breathability in high heat. The shorts pockets are lined with towel fabric to help keep hands dry. A special elastic tape keeps the waistband smooth.

Andy Murray Barricade 6.0 Murray’s footwear, the Barricade 6, reflects his new outfit. The 6 is the newest version of the continually reinvented, improved and very popular Barricade tennis shoe. This is a limited edition shoe that features Murray’s signature on the insole. $115 USD.

Fernando Verdasco Australian Open Tennis Fashion 2011.

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

Fernando Verdasco Australian Open 2011 Fernando Verdasco will take a page from Nadal’s technicolor style book at this year’s Australian Open adding a blast of oh-so-trendy pink to his on-courtdrobe.*  Verdasco’s look is from adidas’ adizero collection which blends the performance and comfort adidas fans crave.

The adizero line is made of super lightweight fabric designed to keep you from overheating (a must in the scorching Australian heat). A smooth waistband on the shorts provides better fit and feel. I never thought about it myself but a flat band would of course be more comfortable than a cinched drawstring — unless of course you are working a bit of a joe.

Verdasco, will play in this fresh pink crew with a white based version as an alternative. The design is a sublimated off center brushstroke style x  accented with intense green, yellow and black. I’m thinking the pink is going to be a young-guns look only;  fits with Nando’s fresh mohawk (not pictured) for sure. The polo style in the group offered in green, black and white is a good alternative for terminally pinkophobic men. Jo Wilfried Tsonga will wear the green polo version (not saying he doesn’t like pink).

Adidas adizero shoe in pink Verdasco’s tennis shoes are the feather pink and black adizero Feather, lightweight, all-court in an athletic frame that offers good stability as well as heel cushioning.  “I need a shoe that can get me through matches that can sometimes last up to four hours,” said Verdasco. “The longer I’m on court the lighter I need my shoe to be so I don’t get tired out…[T]he adizero Feather is the perfect solution.”

Find it all soon at Shop adidasTennis-Warehouse and tennis retailers worldwide.
